A noisy hot water tank can make a variety of different sounds – maybe a rumble, sizzling, pops, or a constant hum. Some of the unusual sounds that your hot water tank makes could be from some of the following problems:

• Poor water flow
• Accumulation of mineral deposits
• Leaks
• Faulty heating element

If you’re experiencing any of these sounds and aren’t sure what the cause is, you should call the professionals. Our team can help assess the problem with your hot water tank and provide an affordable and effective solution. Contact us today!

Sometimes hot water tanks can leak. At times it is possible to identify the source of the leak but other times you’ll just notice a puddle of water underneath it with no real idea of what the issue really is. If water is spraying from pipes near the water heater or flooding from the water heater itself, there is probably an issue with the water pressure in the pipes or from the tank. If this is the case, immediately turn off the valve on the supply side of the leak to cut the water. Sometimes the leaks are due to corrosion in the hot water tank itself, as hot water tanks have a limited lifespan. Sometimes leaks occur from electric water heater’s heating element gaskets and require maintenance. If you are experiencing leaks in your hot water heater, contact us today.

How long a hot water tank lasts depends on a few factors such as the specific model used, how heavily it was used, and how well it was maintained. Generally, traditional hot water tanks can be expected to last from 8 to 12 years. If you are unsure how old your hot water tank is, check out its serial number. In the upper part of the water heater you will be able to find the serial number. The letter stands for the month and are in chronological order – A for January, B for February, C for March etc. The next two numbers indicate the year it was manufactured in. So, a serial number beginning in C19 would have been made in March 2019. If you believe it is time to replace your hot water tank, contact us today. We can help determine if your hot water tank needs replacing.

While many people are opting for tankless water heaters for their Ottawa homes, for some people hot water tanks remain the best solution. The main reasons people choose to remain with a hot water tank system over a tankless system are:

• Lower up-front costs: Compared to tankless water heaters, hot water tanks are cheaper to install up-front.
• Hot water tanks deliver heated water faster: Because the water is already heated in the tank, it does not need even a second to heat up.
• They deliver more consistent water temperature: This is especially true when multiple water outlets are being used at the same time.
• They provide hot water during power outages: Electric tankless water heaters cannot provide hot water during power outages. Hot water tanks will be able to deliver heated water during an outage.

In older versions of gas storage water heaters, less than 50% of the fuel energy reached the point of use, meaning a very substantial waste of natural resources and your money. In recent years there have been dramatic improvements in the efficiency of hot water tanks, improving their efficiency and reducing the amount of energy wasted. The most efficient models of hot water tanks are energy star rated models, which are held to a high standard of efficiency. Some hot water tanks are now designed to pair with radiant floor heating, allowing for some of the most efficient and comfortable heating solutions for your home.
