How often do I need to service my hot water tank?

It depends on manufacturer specifications and the mineral content of your water. Different manufacturers have different requirements for servicing and maintenance work to keep the hot water tank working efficiently and to help protect your warranty.

Why is my hot water tank leaking?

Sometimes hot water tanks can leak. At times it is possible to identify the source of the leak but other times you’ll just notice a puddle of water underneath it with no real idea of what the issue really is. If water is spraying from pipes near the water heater or flooding from the water heater itself, there is probably an issue with the water pressure in the pipes or from the tank. If this is the case, immediately turn off the valve on the supply side of the leak to cut the water. Sometimes the leaks are due to corrosion in the hot water tank itself, as hot water tanks have a limited lifespan. How long do hot water tanks last?

How long a hot water tank lasts depends on a few factors such as the specific model used, how heavily it was used, and how well it was maintained. Generally, traditional hot water tanks can be expected to last from 8 to 12 years. If you are unsure how old your hot water tank is, check out its serial number. In the upper part of the water heater you will be able to find the serial number. The letter stands for the month and are in chronological order – A for January, B for February, C for March etc. The next two numbers indicate the year it was manufactured in. So, a serial number beginning in C19 would have been made in March 2019. If you believe it is time to replace your hot water tank, contact us today.
